Can a Florida nurse work in New York?
A multistate (compact) license from Florida generally does not authorize practice in New York, because New York is not a compact state. You will likely need a New York license by endorsement or a single-state New York license.

MQA and FL HealthSource are the front door for Florida health-professional licensing generally, so that is where an employer lands — but the board directs NURSE license verification, RN and LPN, to Nursys. The MQA search will show you a Florida practitioner record; it is not the route the board points employers at for nurses. Official certifications are ordered separately and are a paid service.

NYSED Office of the Professions verification ↗The Office of the Professions treats its online search as a primary source for verification. The part that catches people applying INTO New York is that the route depends on whether the state that issued your license participates in Nursys. Where it does, verification travels electronically. Where it does not, New York falls back to a paper instrument — Form 3, the Verification of Other Professional Licensure — which you send to your original licensing authority to complete and return to NYSED. That is a materially slower path, and it is chosen by your ISSUING state, not by you. We are deliberately not reproducing a list of non-participating states here: the lists published by different authorities disagree with each other, and at least one names a state whose own board documents its Nursys service. Check Nursys for your specific state rather than trusting any list, including ours.
How long each has been part of this
Florida has recognized compact privilege since January 19, 2018. New York does not recognize it, so the comparison is not between two dates — it is between a state where privilege exists and one where a license has to be held outright.
