Virginia states outright that this lookup IS primary-source verification of the credential and meets Joint Commission requirements — few boards commit to that in writing, and it means a printed result can stand as the file copy. But the free tier is RATE-LIMITED, and it is sized for occasional individual checks. Run a batch of hires through it and you will hit an error that looks like a broken system or a missing nurse; it is neither. Volume users are expected to take the subscription or the bulk license-database download. Covers all 62 professions DHP regulates, not just nursing.
How long each has been part of this
Virginia has recognized compact privilege since January 19, 2018; Washington since July 24, 2023 — a gap of about 5 years. That is worth knowing because the newer member is where employers, staffing agencies and HR systems are most likely to still be working from an out-of-date understanding of what a multistate license covers.
One of these two ran a two-phase rollout — honouring incoming privilege before issuing multistate licenses to its own residents, which are separate switches on separate dates. The adoption timeline gives both dates for every jurisdiction.

- You must meet Virginia's practice requirements (for example, scope of practice and any continuing-education rules).
