Nursys QuickConfirm reports the license type (single-state or multistate), current status, and expiration for participating boards. It is the fastest way to confirm whether a license carries compact privilege.
Checking with the Arizona State Board of Nursing
For anything Nursys does not show — or to confirm official requirements — go to the Arizona State Board of Nursing. The board is the authority on Arizona licensure; we do not make licensure determinations.
Could an Arizona license be multistate?
Only if it was issued or upgraded on or after January 19, 2018 — the date the Arizona State Board of Nursing began issuing multistate licenses to Arizona residents. A license issued before then was single-state when granted, so a nurse holding an older Arizona license who has never upgraded will still verify as single-state no matter how long they have been licensed here.
Beyond Nursys, Arizona publishes its own primary-source lookup: Arizona BON primary source verification. Where the two disagree, the issuing board controls.
What trips people up in Arizona: Arizona splits by credential: RN, LPN and APRN records are uploaded to Nursys daily, while CNA and other certifications stay on the board’s own portal. If you are verifying a nursing assistant, Nursys will not have them.
The compact statute in Arizona: Confirmed at section level from the Arizona Legislature’s own text: § 32-1660 is headed "Nurse Licensure Compact" and opens "The nurse licensure compact is adopted and enacted into law as follows:". This replaces A.R.S. §§ 32-1668 and 32-1669, which were REPEALED when Arizona moved to the enhanced compact — those sections still surface in search results and on third-party mirrors, and citing them is the specific error this dataset exists to avoid. Which version of the compact text sits in art. 2.1 is not recorded here, because both versions carry the same heading and we have not read the uniform-requirements provisions; Arizona’s membership status is tracked separately and does not rest on that question.
