Nursys QuickConfirm reports the license type (single-state or multistate), current status, and expiration for participating boards. It is the fastest way to confirm whether a license carries compact privilege.
Checking with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
For anything Nursys does not show — or to confirm official requirements — go to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. The board is the authority on Louisiana licensure; we do not make licensure determinations.
Could a Louisiana license be multistate?
Only if it was issued or upgraded on or after July 1, 2019 — the date the Louisiana State Board of Nursing began issuing multistate licenses to Louisiana residents. A license issued before then was single-state when granted, so a nurse holding an older Louisiana license who has never upgraded will still verify as single-state no matter how long they have been licensed here.
Beyond Nursys, Louisiana publishes its own primary-source lookup: Louisiana State Board of Nursing licensure verification. Where the two disagree, the issuing board controls.
What trips people up in Louisiana: Louisiana states outright that some licenses are NOT available for public verification and must be requested by email. So a blank result here does not mean the nurse is unlicensed — the same trap as Washington’s temporary permits, arriving by a different route. Outbound verification to a non-Nursys state is a mailed form with a $25 money order specifically, which is worth knowing before someone tries to pay by card.
