Checking with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing

Could an Oklahoma license be multistate?
Only if it was issued or upgraded on or after January 19, 2018 — the date the Oklahoma Board of Nursing began issuing multistate licenses to Oklahoma residents. A license issued before then was single-state when granted, so a nurse holding an older Oklahoma license who has never upgraded will still verify as single-state no matter how long they have been licensed here.
Beyond Nursys, Oklahoma publishes its own primary-source lookup: Oklahoma Board of Nursing verification portal. Where the two disagree, the issuing board controls.
What trips people up in Oklahoma: The board treats its own web verification as primary source. Two practical details: search needs a license type selected alongside the name or number, and Oklahoma license numbers are prefixed R for registered nurses and L for practical nurses — so a number that will not resolve is often being searched under the wrong type. Oklahoma also publishes bulk licensee lists through its open-records page, like Iowa and unlike the states that meter this.
Oklahoma's nurse practice act: Oklahoma republishes the Nursing Practice Act with a stated effective date each year. Anyone quoting it should say which edition — a citation with no date is not obviously current, and the board keeps prior editions online alongside the latest.
The compact statute in Oklahoma: Oklahoma keeps the compact inside the Nursing Practice Act rather than in a separate chapter — § 567.21 sits in the same run as the practice act sections beginning at § 567.1. The board publishes the whole Act as a dated PDF, which is a genuinely better primary source than most: you can see which version you are reading from the cover rather than guessing whether a web page is current. Multistate licensure has been available here since the enhanced compact implemented on 19 January 2018, and Oklahoma explicitly extends it to telehealth as well as in-person practice.
