How do I verify a nursing license in Utah?

Could a Utah license be multistate?

Only if it was issued or upgraded on or after January 19, 2018 — the date the Utah Board of Nursing began issuing multistate licenses to Utah residents. A license issued before then was single-state when granted, so a nurse holding an older Utah license who has never upgraded will still verify as single-state no matter how long they have been licensed here.

What trips people up in Utah: Conventional: a public online lookup through the Division of Professional Licensing, with no fee gate, credential split, identifier requirement or terminology trap found in this review. Recorded as unremarkable on purpose — after thirty-five states of exceptions it is worth knowing which ones simply work the way you would expect.

The compact statute in Utah: Utah is the jurisdiction where citing the wrong chapter is easiest, because BOTH compacts are still in the code. Chapter 31c is the PRIOR compact and chapter 31e is the current one — party states to the old compact were deemed withdrawn within six months of the new one taking effect. A citation to 58-31c therefore points at superseded law that still looks live on the page. This is the same trap that produced repealed section numbers for Arizona, except here it is visible if you read the chapter titles.

Verifying a CNA in Utah is a different system

Nursys carries RN and LPN/VN licenses only. A nurse aide searched there returns nothing, and that empty result means the wrong system rather than a missing record. Utah nurse aide certifications are held by Utah Nurse Aide Registry (contracted administrator) — a contractor, not a Utah agency, so the Utah Board of Nursing cannot look them up either.
