Continuing education in U.S. Virgin Islands
Fifteen contact hours of continuing education for RNs and LPNs, and thirty for APRNs, earned in the previous biennium. The board recommends that 1.5 of those contact hours relate to the prevention of medication errors. Note the framing the board uses: CE is one of THREE competency requirements, of which two must be completed and approved for renewal — so contact hours alone are not automatically the whole of it. LPNs renew on even years, RNs and APRNs on odd years, and registration expires on the last day of the applicant’s birth month.

The law that governs this in U.S. Virgin Islands
Renewing a license issued by U.S. Virgin Islands happens under U.S. Virgin Islands’s own nurse practice act — the same act that defines what practice means here — administered by the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure. That act is Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure — licensing authority and requirements.
U.S. Virgin Islands has adopted the compact, but we have not confirmed which section of its code carries it, so we do not cite one — several states replaced an earlier compact and the superseded sections still circulate. The practice act above is the citation we have read.

Renewal and out-of-state practice
A U.S. Virgin Islands license renews for U.S. Virgin Islands only. If you practice in other states, you either hold each state’s license or a multistate license from a compact home state — and that multistate license renews separately in that home state.
Can renewing in U.S. Virgin Islands get you a multistate license?
Not yet. U.S. Virgin Islands has enacted the compact (December 6, 2021) but has not finished implementing it, so the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure is not issuing multistate licenses to U.S. Virgin Islands residents. Until it does, renewing here produces a single-state license. Watch the board for an implementation date rather than treating the law passing as the finish line.
