What Nursys shows
Nursys QuickConfirm reports the license type (single-state or multistate), current status, and expiration for participating boards. It is the fastest way to confirm whether a license carries compact privilege.
Checking with the Missouri State Board of Nursing
For anything Nursys does not show — or to confirm official requirements — go to the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The board is the authority on Missouri licensure; we do not make licensure determinations.
Could a Missouri license be multistate?
Only if it was issued or upgraded on or after January 19, 2018 — the date the Missouri State Board of Nursing began issuing multistate licenses to Missouri residents. A license issued before then was single-state when granted, so a nurse holding an older Missouri license who has never upgraded will still verify as single-state no matter how long they have been licensed here.
Beyond Nursys, Missouri publishes its own primary-source lookup: Missouri Division of Professional Registration licensee search. Where the two disagree, the issuing board controls.
What trips people up in Missouri: Missouri treats BOTH routes as primary source: Nursys holds data supplied directly by the board, and the Division’s own search is itself a primary-source verification, refreshed nightly. Either satisfies a credentialing file — so unlike states where one system is authoritative, here the choice is genuinely yours.
The compact statute in Missouri: Missouri names the board’s executive director as the head of the licensing board for compact purposes, and states plainly that a nurse practicing here on privilege is subject to Missouri discipline — the point that surprises people, since the license itself was issued elsewhere. Note also that the compact sections sit apart from the nurse practice act sections (§§ 335.011–335.096) in the same chapter, so a citation to “chapter 335” alone does not identify compact law.
RN, LPN/LVN, and APRN
Verification works the same for RN and LPN/VN licenses. APRN authority is separate and verified per state — see APRN and the compact.
